About the role:
We are looking for a highly skilled Engineering Manager to join our MOTORS business and accelerate our business using modern web technologies.
As an Engineering Manager you’ll be reporting to the Director of Technology while managing a team of engineers. You’ll understand the need to balance perfection and expediency to meet business needs. You’ll be embedding yourself in discussions across functions from tech and product to business. Helping set the right expectations, building up trust and helping us make the right decisions that strike the best balance of short and long-term strategic goals.

Main responsibilities:
You will be positioned at the brink between Product, Commercial and Engineering and together with your help deliver a modern web automotive platform, deliver against our company goals and increase our company value over time
You help us grow our engineering culture and teams as needed to contribute to the success of our business, working with our third party partners
Design and support our strategy for a modern web-based automotive platform
Be a close partner for product teams to help them deliver solutions for our customer needs
Actively contribute to and shape our Technology Strategy, Culture and Ways of Working
Collaborate on a day-to-day basis with other senior stakeholders and engineers
Facilitating 1:1s with direct reports, supporting personal growth and career coaching
Be an active member of the Technology Management Team, using your knowledge and experience to promote best practices and drive organisational maturity
Role requirements:
Capable of guiding engineering teams through coaching and influence.
Capable of translating and clarifying technical direction to non-tech stakeholders.
A calming and positive presence, helping your team to see the bigger picture.
Proven track record of leading significant improvements in quality, performance, stability and scalability to platforms
Significant experience leading architectural system designs
Experience with developing strategies for their engineering discipline and getting buy-in
Experience working with product-market and product leadership
Experience fostering strong engineering cultures, DevOps Culture, TDD Culture, etc
Vision and drive to push toward CI/CD and further automation across the platforms
Growth mindset experience and encouraging it within others
Experience working with the following technologies/stack:
Microservices, Backend-For-Frontend, JavaScript/TypeScript, React 17+, Modern CSS, such as Tailwind, CSS-in-JS, GraphQL/OpenAPI, NodeJS
Previous experience with the following is a bonus:
Cross-platform technologies such as React Native/Expo, Azure technologies, Jest/Vitest, Cypress/Playwright, NextJS and Vercel technologies, React Server Components, React Query, Zod, Storybook, Vite/Webpack
